Collaborating with Juxtaposition Arts

Thanks to a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Cleveland Neighborhood Association will be collaborating with Juxtaposition Arts over the course of the next year to bring high quality arts programming and marketing to the Cleveland Neighborhood. Cleveland Back To School Supplies Drive!

pencilsThe Cleveland Neighborhood Association will be hosting a Back to School Summer Nights Event at Cleveland Park Thursday, August 21st from 5:30pm-7:30pm. There will be food, games, prizes, and a live DJ! Our goal for the event is to provide 100 students with backpacks and school supplies for the 2013-2014 school year.

CNA is partnering with Juxtaposition Arts to provide art inspired backpacks yet we are still in need of school supplies to fill the backpacks. We are asking that community members donate school supplies (notebooks, folders, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, etc.) to help make our event a success. Office Max, Office Depot, Staples and others all have great deals, here’s a great list of sales. Please take a few minutes during your shopping this weekend and pick up some school supplies for area youth. Cleveland staff will be out during National Night Out and can collect supplies then or you can contact the office to drop off or have your supplies picked up. Thanks!

Please call the Cleveland Neighborhood Association office (612-588-1155) to coordinate the drop off of donations. We’re also looking for volunteers for our Back To School event, so please contact us if you’re interested in volunteering as well.

Thank you!

Lucy Michelle and her band at Live On The Drive August 8th

Lucy Michelle - Press Photo

From LiveOnTheDrive.org:

Lucy Michelle and her band will rock our Live on the Drive season to a close on Thursday, August 8th from 6 to 8pm.  The free concert is held outdoors on the scenic Victory Memorial Drive at 34th Avenue North in Minneapolis, one of the most beautiful concert settings in the city.

Lucy Michelle is a singer/songwriter as serious as they come.  Her most recent and first ever solo album, “Attack of the Heart,” takes listeners on a journey of American pop music – from a New Orleans shuffle, to countrified California, to Detroit R&B and jazz.  Get ready to hear this delightful combination of musical styles, Ms. Michelle’s unique vocal stylings and more at this last, luscious, Live on the Drive concert of the year.

Lucy’s band for this concert is absolutely stellar, too.  Members include Chan Poling (keyboard) who founded the seminal Punk/New Wave band The Suburbs and now fronts The New Standards; John Munson (upright bass), also of the New Standards and an original member of Trip Shakespeare and the chart-topping Semisonic; Chris Koza on guitar, Richard Medek on drums and Max Ray on sax.

Don’t miss the music and the party on 8/8! Our final concert will also feature a break-time set by the a capella quartet, “St. Anthony Main,” a youth art gallery, free health screenings, a bike ride before the show, food trucks and a movie after the concert. Check LiveOnTheDrive.org for more details. And be sure to pack a picnic, invite your neighbors, bring your friends and walk or roll to the concert.

Live on the Drive is presented by founding partner, North Memorial, with the Cleveland Neighborhood Association, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, North End Hardware and The Lowry Café, Camden Music School, NorthNews, Victory Neighborhood Association, Camden Pet Hospital, Washburn-McReavy, Max Checking, and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council.  This activity is funded, in part, by appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund, and its arts and cultural heritage fund that was created by a vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. (sponsors to date)
