cna-large-logo onlyThe City of Minneapolis has received funds from Wells Fargo to provide down payment assistance to homebuyers purchasing a single-family home in targeted neighborhoods – listed below.

Homebuyers may receive up to $5,000 in a no-interest deferred loan. The funds can be used to bring the housing ratio (principal, interest, taxes, homeowner’s insurance and mortgage insurance, if any) to 25% of their gross monthly income.  Income restrictions apply.

Holiday on 44th this Friday!

This community celebration is meant to foster understanding between people of different cultures, improve residents’ quality of life, support local artists, and promote neighborhood pride. This Friday evening from 6-9pm all along 44th Avenue in north Minneapolis. The Cleveland Neighborhood Association is proud to be a continuing sponsor of Holiday on 44th.

Now in its 15th year, Holiday on 44th is a large and highly anticipated event. Most of the indoor festivities will take place in the Patrick Henry High School and Loring Elementary gyms. There will be activities all along 44th Avenue North, including horsedrawn haywagon rides, ice sculpting, carolers, crafters, musicians, and performances by the Workhouse Theater Company.

Declare Your 15 is a campaign to encourage neighbors to engage in their neighborhood in meaningful ways. Commit to joining one of our exciting committees, volunteer with one of our neighborhood events, contribute some funds for programs like Live on the Drive, and share with your friends!

Cleveland Commons 2020

A resident vision for Cleveland Park

This fall we are embarking on a community engagement project to put together a vision for what residents and park users would like to see Cleveland Park and the surrounding green space look like by the year 2020. The decision to focus on this project came from resident feedback this summer that highlighted the park and that more could be done to enhance it as a community space and a true gathering places for the community. We also want to think bigger than just the park about what a truly “Common” space, shared by neighbors of all types, could really look like.

Thanks to the tireless work of Landscape Architecture student, Amber Hill, and Professor, Kristine Miller, our community engagement efforts will results in a final vision that the community can then use as an advocacy tool when talking with the Park Board, who have funding allocated for Cleveland Park in 2017, or other funders about updating the space. This visioning project will also help tie together two previous efforts by Cleveland residents to help vision what development on the northwest corner of Penn and Lowry Avenue will look like and input on a master plan for the Lucy Laney school grounds.

Mark your calendar for our Party in the Park events Wednesday, October 17th 5-7pm or Saturday, October 20th 2-5pm and then also come out for our Halloween Party in the Park, October 27th, 2-5pm in costume if you want candy and to give final feedback on three possible park designs. Cleveland Park is your park, your community space, your common space with your neighbors. Be sure to come out and share your vision for Cleveland Commons 2020.

Chili Dinner and Annual Meeting

Join with your neighbors and learn about all that has happened in the past year in the Cleveland Neighborhood. Enjoy some delicious chili, catered by Cleveland’s own Kimberly Caprini and Color Me Chili. We’ll be releasing our annual report, sharing stories from the past year, and discussing how you can become a more active neighbor in Cleveland. You’re not going to want to miss the delicious food and the great presentation.

Our annual meeting is also when we hold board elections and we’ll have at least 4 seats available for new board members. Joining the Board of Directors is a great opportunity and experience for any neighbor, whether you’ve been on a board before or are just now hearing of the idea for the first time. We’ll have a Board training and a Board retreat shortly after elections so you’ll have a chance to receive valuable training and gain knowledge that will be relevant even after your time on the CNA Board. We ask Board members to commit to about 5 hours a month of volunteer time, which includes attending a monthly Board meeting (3rd Monday of every month at 7pm) and at least one committee meeting per month. Harvest Fest and Open Streets a Huge Success!

Wow! If you didn’t have the chance to get down to Lowry Avenue this past Saturday, well you really missed out. Several music stages, games, food and thousands of neighbors filled Lowry from Upton down to 4th for most of the day on September 29th. This event was an expansion of Harvest Fest which celebrated it’s fourth year with an art gallery, car show, beer garden and all-day music at Penn and Lowry. Thanks to support from Open Streets, this year Harvest Fest was able to expand and with the tireless work of the Lowry Business Association, the event drew hundreds of neighbors onto the avenue to walk and bike and for a day of northside pride.
