Tell Your Neighbors About Winter Parking

regina flyering
Regina, our awesome intern, letting neighbors know where to park for safer streets and happier neighbors.

Winter parking restrictions has been in effect since Sunday, but many of our neighbors are not aware of the change. This can be especially difficult for new neighbors whose first language is not English, or those simply out of the loop. Help us get them informed by letting us know where to go.

If you have a block with a lot of cars parked on the even side of the street, let CNA staff know and we’ll do a doorknock and flyering on your block asap. Or, if you’d like to do this yourself, print the flyer below and flyer the cars or doors on your block so your neighbors don’t get towed and your street stays clear.

Meet our New Intern Regina

reginaHello Cleveland Neighborhood, my name is Regina Cole; I am a new intern from the Social Justice Internship Program, HECUA. I am very pleased to have this opportunity to join CNA as an Intern this semester, and hope to become a valuable asset of your family in the further future. One of my goals is to serve and assist families living in poverty. Family and community involvement is very important to me and are key components in developing good relationships, and I hope to be a part of the great things CNA does to ensure that happens. Here is some information on my background; I was born and raised in Chicago, IL, and moved to Minneapolis, MN in 2009; currently studying Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota. When I am not studying I am feeding, cleaning, entertaining, chasing, and comforting my two-year old daughter by the name of Ariel.

P.s Please look forward to seeing me soon, I will be passing out CNA’s information bags. I am excited about meeting everyone.Thank you!

Plant a Tree, Beautify Our Neighborhood

Starting March 17, the City of Minneapolis is offering more than 1,000 five to eight-foot trees for only $25 each. Mark your calendar now. Order your tree starting 8 a.m., March 17, at www.treetrust.org. Pick it up May 15, 17, 18 or 19.

Reminder: Mayoral Forum Tomorrow Night

Your City Your Vote Minneapolis logoJust a quick reminder that if you’d like to hear directly from the Mayoral candidates this election, be sure to come out to our Northside Candidate Forum on October 8th at Folwell Park. This upcoming Mayoral Forum will be a great opportunity to hear from the current candidates. RSVP here.

Mayoral Forum – October 8th

6:00pm – 8:30pm

Folwell Park Gym
1615 N Dowling Ave
Minneapolis, MN 55412

From the Forum Hosts:

It is with great pleasure that we, a coalition of northside community organizations of color and allies, announce the first ever Northside Candidate Forums organized for and by northsiders moderated by Reg Chapman of WCCO News.

Given the nature of this year’s election cycle, the change in racial/ethnic demographics in the city and the use of RCV, the winner of both the ward 5 and ward 4 council races, and the city’s mayoral election will be decided on the voter turnout in communities of color. The residents of these communities have suffered from a lack of unified city wide representation over the last 15 years. Our community has been victimized and neglected over the years and we want to have a say in the shaping of our future.

Executive directors from North Minneapolis neighborhood organizations and several community partners, have come together to host three community forums for this election cycle. Our goal is to provide candidates with an opportunity to really understand the geographical, racial and economic diversity of North Minneapolis, give residents a chance to get to know their future public officials and to educate the city’s one and only minority majority voting ward on RCV.
