Party in the Park Tomorrow!

2015-Party-FlyerThere is a chance of rain Wednesday evening, but if the skies are clear we will be having our first Party in the Park event at Cleveland Park. We’ll be kicking off the Cleveland Park Summer Program and the beginning of a great summer in the Cleveland Neighborhood. This event is put on by the Cleveland Neighborhood Association’s Youth Committee and run by the amazing Cleveland Step-Up Team.
We’ll have Elpis Enterprises out with a Bird Feeder construction project, the North Vegans serving Vegan Strips and the PYC Summer Park program serving a community dinner. We hope you can join us for this great event!
The event will be held at Cleveland Park this summer and reaches residents in the Cleveland Neighborhood and surrounding area.

If you are interested in tabling for the July or August events you can sign up to do so here:

A huge thank you to the Cleveland Neighborhood Association Youth Committee and the amazing high school students from Patrick Henry High school and Edison High school who put together and pulled off a great family event on Saturday. With there help the kids and parents imagined and created Cars, SUVs, a truck and even a plane (click to see pictures!). It was so great to see the details that they added to their projects. We have an amazing neighborhood and great families and youth.
You won’t want to miss our summer series, Party in the Park, the next big event that the Youth Committee is planning. If you’d like to participate in the planning we’d love your help. Join us this Thursday, April 2nd, at 6:30pm at CNA for the monthly Youth Committee meeting to play an important role in your community and ensuring we have positive activities for youth and families all summer long. We hope to see you there!

Last Day to Sign Up for Step-Up Summer Employment Program

Please let us know if you or a youth on your block might be interested in applying for the Summer Step-Up program. It’s a great opportunity for youth to gain valuable job skills, have something positive to do over the summer, and put some spending money in their pocket. We’ve had a great time at CNA hosting interns the past two summers and they have been a crucial help to our summer events like Live on the Drive. We’d love to hire local Cleveland Neighborhood youth, but we can’t do that in the spring unless they’ve already signed up Don’t miss out on this great opportunity. Sign up for STEP-UP Today!

Calling all Teens! Apply for Summer Step-Up Today!

In the Cleveland Neighborhood, we want to make sure every young person that is interested in having a job has that opportunity. The Step-Up program is a great opportunity for students ages 14-21 to begin or continue their steps into the job world, build their resume, expand your skills, try new things and, of course, earn a little spending money. We’ll also be looking to hire several students at CNA this summer and would love to have students from the neighborhood. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity. Sign up for STEP-UP Today!

If there are any teens on your block, please share this opportunity or let us know their address so we can get the word out to them.

Second Annual Bike Giveaway a Success

photo 1The Cleveland Neighborhood Association Youth Committee was proud to participate in the Free Bikes 4 Kids annual bike giveaway for the second time this past weekend. We’ve now matched over 200 youth from the community with bikes through the program. It is a great opportunity for families and a great opportunity for us to build strong connections with neighbors and families. In 2015, we hope to host a giveaway site on location in the Cleveland Neighborhood to give even more families direct access, particularly those who rely primarily on public transportation. If you would like to be involved and help us plan the 2015 Bike giveaway please contact us at the officer via phone or text at 612-567-1262. Thank you to Free Bikes 4 Kids for making this a successful event.photo 2

Help Kids Stay Warm This Winter

blizzardDo you have any extra winter coat lying around? How about a drawer full of winter hats and gloves? A scarf you don’t wear?

Lucy Craft Laney School is currently seeking donations to help kids keep warm this winter! Boots, gloves, coats, hats, scarves, snowpants, mittens, ear muffs, and all that other cozy stuff, for students ages 5 to 13 years. Here at Lucy Laney, 98% of the students depend on the free lunch program. This means that when they outgrow their winter coverings, as children do, they are not always financial able to replace it. If you are able and interested in helping our young neighbors by donating new or gently used coats, gloves, etc., please contact Dwquita Nash, Family and Community Liaison at 612-668-2168, Dwquita.nash@mpls.k12.mn.us, or drop off your donations at the main office.

Thank you for helping children in your community stay protected from the elements!

We’re Partnering with Free Bikes 4 Kids!

apply_4_bikes2A bike means a lot to a young person and we’re joining up with Free Bikes 4 Kids this year to ensure all the youth in the Cleveland Neighborhood have a chance to have a bike to ride around next summer. We’ll have two upcoming registration opportunities that we invite all families interested in receiving a bike from the bike Give Away to attend.

North First: Education – October 6th, 6pm at the Capri Theater

Come to the event with your child and register for a bike. Stay for dinner and enjoy this great event.

Cleveland Annual Party – October 22nd, 7pm at Lucy Craft Laney School

Join us for our annual party where we share what we’ve accomplished this year and elect new board members. Bring your child, register for a bike, stay for dinner and meet some neighbors!

If you can’t make either of these events, we’ll be posting alternate ways to register shortly. We can’t guarantee a bike, but we can say that last year we registered 100 children for bikes and all who went to the Give Away did receive a bicycle.
