Cleveland Neighborhood Free Bikes 4 Kidz Partnership

hcbike discussionThe Cleveland Neighborhood Association is proud to partner with Free Bikes 4 Kidz this year to giveaway several free bikes to neighborhood families for youth who don’t currently have a bicycle. If you are interested in receiving a bicycle for a youth in your family please plan on attending our Biking Workshop TONIGHT! (Nov 11th, Monday) at the Cleveland Neighborhood Association offices, 3333 Penn Ave N, on the south end of the Lucy Laney school buiding from 6:30-7:30pm. Those who attend will be the first to be able to sign-up for the bike giveaway (at the end of the workshop). We will post additional announcements after tonight. (The bikes are for youth, not adults)

Support Youth: Donate New and Gentle Used Sweatshirts for Youth Connect

The Cleveland Neighborhood Association is supporting Youth Connect this coming Monday, October 28th, from 1-5pm at 3450 Irving Avenue S. Youth Connect is an opportunity for youth ages 16-23 who are homeless, runaway or at-risk of running away or becoming homeless to get connected to different services and resources that include employment, education, health care, dental care, State ID’s and Birth Certificates, free hair cuts, basic needs supplies, legal services, shelter and housing and much more.

CNA is collecting donations of new and gentle used sweatshirts this Saturday during our Halloween Party event from 1-3pm at Lucy Laney School. If you have items to donate or would like to make a financial donation, please bring your items to Lucy Laney this Saturday from 1-3pm or call the office 612-588-1155 to arrange pick-up.

Thank you for supporting our community youth!

Cleveland Halloween Party – Volunteers and Donations Needed!

And we are looking for donations. If you have any of the following please contact us to schedule a donation pick-up or a time to drop off:

  • Toilet paper – 2, 12-count rolls (2 ply) (for mummy making contest)
  • paper cups – 100 (6 oz)
  • Halloween candy – 20 bags
  • Fruit snacks
  • Apple cider – 4, gallon jugs
  • Foil stars – 10 sheets
  • Mini pumpkins – 10 (for prizes)
  • Organic apples – 6-8 dozen

Teen and Young Adult Arts Workshop -Saturday

keegan webJoin the Cleveland Neighborhood Association and Free Poet’s Press for a local workshop on collage making, Saturday August 24th at 1pm. As part of our Critical Literacy Project we’re hosting community space to explore literacy and the arts. Keegan Xavi, a multidisciplinary artist from Minneapolis, will be teaching the art of collage. Teens and young adults from all ability levels are welcome. Please RSVP by calling 612.558.1155

Reminder: Back To School Event Tomorrow!

1168300_91327231Join us as we celebrate learning and encourage our community students as they head back to school. August 21st from 5:30-7:30pm we’ll have food, games and school supplies to give away to students. Thanks to a partnership with Juxtaposition Arts we’ll be offering custom designed backpacks for each student who comes to the giveaway. A great way to head back to school with your own unique style.

There’s a chance of rain, but we’ll do our best to make the event happen and we’ll still be giving away backpacks regardless so come on by!

Bike To the Drive 5pm on August 8th

IMG_0530Join your neighbors and friends as we take a leisurely bike ride through the Cleveland Neighborhood to Live On The Drive on Thursday. We’ll meet at the CNA Office, right between Lucy Craft Laney School and Cleveland Park at 5pm. We’ll take a nice 4 mile route through the neighborhood. And we’ll get to the Concert with plenty of time to rest up, get a good set and grab some lemonade. Send the whole family, come yourself, or just wave at us as we pass by your house. A great opportunity for young and old to join the bike parade, get some exercise, and have some fun together. We’ll see you out there!

P.S. Don’t forget, the amazing Lucy Michelle is playing from 6-8pm, There’s a youth art gallery, food trucks, and the movie Elf after the concert! Don’t miss it!

Molly grew up in the city and is excited to finally be old enough to spend a whole week at her Grandma’s farm! Grandma tells her to
play outside, but only gives her one old boot to wear. Molly wonders what’s wrong with Grandma until her boot magically leads her to discover all the fun to be had in the country.

Summer Park Program Kicks-Off June 17th

PlaygroundThe Cleveland Park Summer program is a FREE Drop-in program for kids of all ages in the Cleveland Neighborhood. The program runs from June 17th through August 9th, Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm at Cleveland Park (3232 Queen Ave N.).

This Staffed program provides Breakfast and Lunch for free for any youth under 18 regardless of if they choose to participate in the program (Breakfast at 10, Lunch at 1pm). Additional activities include:

  • Sports and Games
  • Mornings with TPT’s Electric Company Camp
  • Guest Artists from Camden Music School
  • Great Books to Read
  • Fun People to hang out with
  • 7 Field Trips throughout the summer And MUCH MORE!

Download the enrollment form here, call our office, 588-1155 or come by the park after June 17th to enroll your youth.

* This is a drop-in program, and children may come and go from the program as
they please. Youth can come 1 day…10 days…or everyday- whenever they’re
looking for something fun to do!

** Youth under age 5 must be accompanied by a responsible sibling or adult.

Community Invited to the Lucy Laney School Carnival – May 23rd

Our neighbors, Lucy Craft Laney school, are holding their big end of the year Carnival fundraiser. A fun family event and a great way to support the school:

Come out and enjoy music,fun, Food, and prizes Block party Style. We will have our staff Dunk tank, Face painting, Staff VS Students TUG-O-War, and the chance to win a brand new bicycle for your son or daughter…  This is a Party you Do Not want to miss!!!laney carnival
