Join us for a discussion regarding the future of Penn Avenue. On December 8th 6:30pm at CNA, for our December Community Development Committee meeting, we’ll be talking with staff from Hennepin County about what the Avenue might look like and how it will change in the next 10-15 years. We’ll discuss what the landscape looks like, Buses, parking, biking and what businesses we want along the corridor. The new Webber Park Library design team is eager to share the preliminary ideas that they have been developing this fall with the Northside community. The next community meeting for the New Webber Park Library will be held on Saturday, December 6th from 9 to 11 am at the Webber Community Center, located at 4400 Dupont Avenue N. Hennepin County staff and the project architects will review proposed library site plans and discuss early plan diagrams. Site Preparation and Deconstruction:
Preparation of the site for the future Webber Park Library began earlier this fall. Site fencing was installed and soil sampling and analysis is underway. Deconstruction of the residential buildings began in early October and is expected to be complete in November. The deconstruction process is carefully coordinated to ensure materials are salvaged for reuse, recycling, or repurposing where possible.
RFI for Commercial Development:
Hennepin County Housing and Redevelopment Authority released a Request for Interest to sell the surplus property located just south of the new library, located at 4414 Humboldt Avenue North. The county is seeking a party that proposes to remodel or redevelop the property in a manner that is complementary with the library and the community. Responses to the Request for Interest are due onNovember 21, 2014. Respondents are invited to display information on their responses at the December 6th community meeting. An update on the process will be provided at the December 6 community meeting as well. Penn Avenue Community Works is an ongoing project by Hennepin County to improve to develop Penn Avenue. Lucy Craft Laney School is currently seeking donations to help kids keep warm this winter! Boots, gloves, coats, hats, scarves, snowpants, mittens, ear muffs, and all that other cozy stuff, for students ages 5 to 13 years. Here at Lucy Laney, 98% of the students depend on the free lunch program. This means that when they outgrow their winter coverings, as children do, they are not always financial able to replace it. If you are able and interested in helping our young neighbors by donating new or gently used coats, gloves, etc., please contact Dwquita Nash, Family and Community Liaison at 612-668-2168, Dwquita.nash@mpls.k12.mn.us, or drop off your donations at the main office.

Non-profit PRG, Inc. is excited to expand our Homebuyer Education program to north Minneapolis. We are offering our Home Stretch Homebuyer workshop FREE of charge to residents of the Cleveland neighborhood (normally $35.00) for a limited time. We especially want to encourage individuals to attend who may be in the very early stages of thinking about buying a home. The workshop is a great introduction to the home buying process and a great first step towards home ownership. In addition, homebuyers can meet with PRG’s Home Ownership Advisors make an individualized plan to work toward home ownership. This counseling service is always free.

This is a great way to help families during the difficult holiday times at a school where 98% of the students depend on the free lunch program.
