Yoga in the Neighborhood!

Yoga 1

Yoga, it was the most requested community education offering when we surveyed residents in Cleveland and now we’ve got it for you just down the street!  Starting January 30th every Thursday from 6-7pm you are welcome to join Instructor Jennifer Kennedy-Logan for an 8 week session at Lucy Craft Laney school.

End your day mentally and physically balanced with gentle Hatha Yoga. Relieve tension while finding a deeper connection to the body through postures and breath. Each class will include practicing basic breath work and awareness combined with movement and stillness including Sun Salutations, standing postures, forward bends, twists and a brief meditation. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat and a blanket.

To sign up and for more information visit the Minneapolis Community Education page. Don’t miss it!

Fight The Cold With The Home Energy Squad

home energy squad logo

Besides thinking about your cold toes on a day like today, you might be thinking about your energy bill hurting your pocketbook. Now is a great time to think about reducing that energy bill and inviting the Home Energy Squad to help you do that. Cleveland residents have been utilizing this great resource for the past four years and nearly 10% of all Cleveland households have been involved in the program! Learn more on the Home Energy Squad Website or below.

The program involves energy consultants visiting residents’ homes to evaluate energy savings opportunities, and install energy-efficient materials. The program’s goal is to help residents save money and energy by learning more about their home, and gaining access to energy saving materials.  All the cost of the diagnostic tests, materials, and labor are included in the $70 visit fee (the visits are discounted $30 for Minneapolis residents).

If the visit fee is a barrier to involvement would scholarships from CNA be helpful? If you’ve had a visit from the Energy Squad would you be willing to share our experience? Comment below or shoot us an email. Thanks!

Green Homes North at 3210 Vincent

Now in it’s third phase, Green Homes North is an initiative of the city to build 100 energy-efficient homes on city-owned vacant lots in north Minneapolis. One of the recently proposed sites is 3210 Vincent Ave N, just north of Lowry Avenue in the Cleveland Neighborhood. Peyser LLC, a for-profit developer is interested in building on that site.

According to the Realtor working on the project:

“These homes meet “green” construction standards for the program and are architecturally designed homes, with an emphasis on being energy-efficient.  Under the program, the home built in Cleveland will be sold to owner-occupants with a household income limitation of 115 percent of the Area Median Income for the Twin Cities region.  Final market value will be determined by comparable, market-rate sales in the area. ”

You can view the layout here (pdf) or below. If you are interested in discussing this development and whether or not CNA should support the project, please come to our Community Development Committee on Monday, January 13th from 6:30-7:30pm. If you can not make the meeting please share your feedback via email cna@clevelandneighborhood or 612-588-1155

Join us to talk about Biking and Bike Lanes on the Northside

Next Monday join us for a discussion: What should Biking look like in your neighborhood? Your larger community? Your city? Your county? Take some time so share your ideas in a meaningful way to help with the revising of a plan for development related to bike and trail plans. Nov 11, 2013, 6:30-7:30pm at the CNA Office. This committee meeting is open to Cleveland residents as well as other northsiders. Here’s the note from the flyer:hcbike discussion

Hennepin County and Three Rivers Park District are revising the county-wide bike and regional trail plan. The plan identifies bike and trail routes, and sets priorities, goals, and
guidelines for bike routes and regional trails. Not a biker? This plan influences how county roads are constructed and funded, so the  results affect all county residents, not just those who bike.

Join the conversation at an upcoming community listening session near you to share your ideas about how to improve bicycling in your neighborhood and throughout the region.
