You Are Invited to 30 Days of Community

30 Days We have a very exciting project we are just about to launch and you get to be the first to hear about it. We are kicking off spring with 30 Days of Community! We’ll be hosting events every day from April 1st to April 30th in a currently vacant storefront at 2205 Lowry Ave (next to the Lowry Cafe). Over that 30 days the space will transform from a movie theater to art gallery, concert space to garden workshop, and any other ideas you come up with. Each event will be hosted by a neighborhood resident, so if you have a great idea you’ve been wanting to do in your community please contact us and we’ll work with you to make it a reality! We have a small budget for each event and will provide each resident with all the support they need to help make it a success. Text or Call 612-567-1262 or email us at cna@clevelandneighborhood.org

This 30 day event will also be the introduction to our Connector Lab, a innovative way of building up community leaders. The Lab will provide 3 residents with mini-grants up to $500 each to create a community project that will better their neighborhood. Lab members will bring together a team to work on and launch their project with the support of the Cleveland Neighborhood Association. Are you ready to turn your community idea into a reality? Contact us! Text or Call 612-567-1262 or email us at cna@clevelandneighborhood.org

Look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions please send us a quick reply email.

Join the Home Energy Squad on Monday

home energy squad logo

On Monday, during the second half of our Crime and Safety Committee at 7pm at the CNA Office, we’ll hear from staff at the Home Energy Squad about their program to help homeowners and tenant’s save money and make their home more “green” with everything from changing light bulbs to weather stripping and more. Come by and learn about the program and how you can have the Squad come by your home. Help CNA know how best to promote this service and how to ensure it is a benefit to our community. We’ll see you on Monday!

Learn more about Home Energy Squad here:

The program involves energy consultants visiting residents’ homes to evaluate energy savings opportunities, and install energy-efficient materials. The program’s goal is to help residents save money and energy by learning more about their home, and gaining access to energy saving materials.  All the cost of the diagnostic tests, materials, and labor are included in the $70 visit fee (the visits are discounted $30 for Minneapolis residents).

Tell Your Neighbors About Winter Parking

regina flyering
Regina, our awesome intern, letting neighbors know where to park for safer streets and happier neighbors.

Winter parking restrictions has been in effect since Sunday, but many of our neighbors are not aware of the change. This can be especially difficult for new neighbors whose first language is not English, or those simply out of the loop. Help us get them informed by letting us know where to go.

If you have a block with a lot of cars parked on the even side of the street, let CNA staff know and we’ll do a doorknock and flyering on your block asap. Or, if you’d like to do this yourself, print the flyer below and flyer the cars or doors on your block so your neighbors don’t get towed and your street stays clear.

Our Work Featured in Minneapolis Connects

2014-02-11 07.50.54

Our fun and exciting outreach activities were featured in the City of Minneapolis’ Connects newsletter, both in print and online. Check out the article below:

Neighborhood Stories: Cleveland Neighborhood Association hosts innovative community building events

Last summer the Cleveland Neighborhood Association (CNA) and their neighborhood Step-Up Youth built a mobile Ball Pit, not for kids, but for adults to release their inhibitions, get in and sit down with a neighbor and to get to know one another. The ball pit was not only fun, but contained questions to ask one another, such as “What’s the nicest thing a neighbor has ever done for you?” or “What do you love about your neighborhood?”

2014-02-11 07.51.02In 2014, CNA plans to use the lessons they learned and the inspiration they received from residents to launch a “Connector Lab” project that will support residents in creating innovative community-building projects, train residents to become leaders in their community and work together to make change in the neighborhood.
CNA also hosted roving pop-up block parties throughout the neighborhood, which were inspired the creation of a Neighborhood Engagement Cart and provided an easy way to launch pop-up block parties.

CNA received support for the Ball Pit from a the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Minnesota, support for Neighborhood Engagement Cart from the Pohlad Foundation, and support for the Connector Lab from the Bush Foundation.

Watch for temporary “No Parking” signs as crews remove snow

noparkingBecause of snow and ice buildup along curbs, some streets are getting too narrow for fire trucks, ambulances and transit buses to get around. To ensure that the streets are open for emergency vehicles, “No Parking” signs will be posted in some locations. In some cases, crews will work to remove some of the accumulated snow and ice, as resources allow.

Look for and follow the  “No Parking” signs, and please help remind your neighbors to do the same. If you park in a spot posted for “No Parking” you may receive a parking ticket, and your car may be towed to the impound lot.

If we get more snowfall in the coming weeks, it may be necessary to impose Winter Parking Restrictions (a city-wide, one-side parking ban on non-Snow Emergency Routes) to help ensure that firefighters, medics and other emergency workers can reach homes and businesses on every street.

If you have questions about this work, just call 311.

Esté atento a las señales temporales de “No aparcar” (“No Parking”) mientras se retira la nieve

(Watch for temporary “No Parking” signs as crews remove snow –Spanish)

Summer Youth Employment Opportunities

In the Cleveland Neighborhood, we want to make sure every young person that is interested in having a job has that opportunity. The Step-Up program is a great opportunity for students ages 14-21 to begin or continue their steps into the job world, build their resume, expand your skills, try new things and, of course, earn a little spending money. We’ll also be looking to hire a few students at CNA this summer and would love to have students from the neighborhood. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity. Sign up for STEP-UP Today!

If there are any teens on your block, please share this opportunity or let us know their address so we can get the word out to them.
