A Green Home On Russell Avenue

3210 Vincent perspectiveA vacant lot at 3241 Russell Avenue in the Cleveland Neighborhood will be the site of a brand new Green Home this year and you have an opportunity to visit the site and learn more about it. The developer Peyser construction will have a gathering at the site next Tuesday at 6pm for those interested in learning more. Here’s they’re letter:

I would like to inform you of our company’s intention to construct a new single family home on the property noted above in your neighborhood and invite you to an informational pre-construction meeting where we will present the project and provide you an opportunity to ask questions, share concerns and help insure a successful construction process.
The meeting must occur at least 15 days prior to the planned construction start (mid June), should last about 30 minutes and will be held at the project site (rain or shine):
Date: Tuesday, May 27, 2014
Time: 6:00-6:30pm
Location: 3241 Russell Avenue North
Minneapolis, MN 55412
This home is part of the City of Minneapolis “Green Homes North” program whose goal is to build over a five year period 100 sustainable and affordable single family homes on vacant properties, all in the neighborhoods of north Minneapolis. These homes will be sold to qualified new owner occupant homeowners that make a commitment to your neighborhood, and the home we plan to build is similar to the two projects we built last year as part of this program at 3858 Sheridan North and 4150 Upton North. More information can be found at the Green Homes North website: www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/cped/
housing/GreenHomesNorth
Our goal is for the construction period to last 3-4 months and to have the home ready for showing at the end of this summer. We intend to be as respectful as possible during the construction period, and the contact information for the developer, contractor and real estate agent will be posted on site during construction.
Thank you, we hope to see you at the informational meeting on May 27th.
Sincerely,
Peyser LLC

What Would You Do With $500 To Make a Difference?

$500 connector lab video

This month, as we host events for  30 Days of Community, we are asking residents what they would do with $500 to make a difference in their community. Check out our video and read below to learn more.

Our goal is to pick one to three ideas were there is a lot of interest and energy from residents and provide a $500 mini-grant and support and resources to turn those ideas into a reality. We’re calling this project the Connector Lab and we are looking for your ideas and your willingness to get involved. Stop by 2205 Lowry Ave N during the 30 Days of Community events to share your idea on our idea wall or text or call with your idea to 612-567-1262 or just email us and we’ll add it in.

Give your Input on a Northside Greenway

wcms1p-122169

Though we disappointed some of you with our April Fool’s joke about a future Trampoline Avenue, the potential for a north-south Greenway along Humboldt and Irving is an actual possibility. Currently the city is looking for feedback via their online survey about residents interest and input. Take a minute and share your thoughts!

Fight The Cold With The Home Energy Squad

home energy squad logo

Besides thinking about your cold toes on a day like today, you might be thinking about your energy bill hurting your pocketbook. Now is a great time to think about reducing that energy bill and inviting the Home Energy Squad to help you do that. Cleveland residents have been utilizing this great resource for the past four years and nearly 10% of all Cleveland households have been involved in the program! Learn more on the Home Energy Squad Website or below.

The program involves energy consultants visiting residents’ homes to evaluate energy savings opportunities, and install energy-efficient materials. The program’s goal is to help residents save money and energy by learning more about their home, and gaining access to energy saving materials.  All the cost of the diagnostic tests, materials, and labor are included in the $70 visit fee (the visits are discounted $30 for Minneapolis residents).

If the visit fee is a barrier to involvement would scholarships from CNA be helpful? If you’ve had a visit from the Energy Squad would you be willing to share our experience? Comment below or shoot us an email. Thanks!

3241 Russell A Possible Green Home Proposal

Last week we posted a proposal for 3210 Vincent Avenue as a possible site for a new-construction Green Home. Based on feedback we and the developer have received, a different proposal is being considered to build at 3241 Russell Ave N, rather then 3210 Vincent. The rest of the information about the project remains the same and is listed below…

Now in it’s third phase, Green Homes North is an initiative of the city to build 100 energy-efficient homes on city-owned vacant lots in north Minneapolis. One of the recently proposed sites is 3241 Russell Ave N, just north of Lowry Avenue in the Cleveland Neighborhood. Peyser LLC, a for-profit developer is interested in building on that site.

According to the Realtor working on the project:

“These homes meet “green” construction standards for the program and are architecturally designed homes, with an emphasis on being energy-efficient.  Under the program, the home built in Cleveland will be sold to owner-occupants with a household income limitation of 115 percent of the Area Median Income for the Twin Cities region.  Final market value will be determined by comparable, market-rate sales in the area. ”

You can view the layout here (pdf) or below. We are looking for feedback from residents before our upcoming board meeting so that the Cleveland Neighborhood Board can make the most informed decision on behalf of the community as to whether to support this project or not. If you’d like to give input please call, email or text us. Thank you for your time.

Join us to talk about Biking and Bike Lanes on the Northside

Next Monday join us for a discussion: What should Biking look like in your neighborhood? Your larger community? Your city? Your county? Take some time so share your ideas in a meaningful way to help with the revising of a plan for development related to bike and trail plans. Nov 11, 2013, 6:30-7:30pm at the CNA Office. This committee meeting is open to Cleveland residents as well as other northsiders. Here’s the note from the flyer:hcbike discussion

Hennepin County and Three Rivers Park District are revising the county-wide bike and regional trail plan. The plan identifies bike and trail routes, and sets priorities, goals, and
guidelines for bike routes and regional trails. Not a biker? This plan influences how county roads are constructed and funded, so the  results affect all county residents, not just those who bike.

Join the conversation at an upcoming community listening session near you to share your ideas about how to improve bicycling in your neighborhood and throughout the region.

Share your thoughts on transit at StreetForum.org

street forumThis summer and fall as part of an effort to engagement more community members around issues of transit development, from Light Rail to Rapid Bus service, we launched a project called Street Forum. We spent time engaging bus riders while they waited at the bus stop and ask them what they thought about future development proposals, what they do and don’t like about the current system and what messages we could take to their public officials and to decisionmakers regarding transit.

See some of the recently posted videos and more to come at StreetForum.org. Leave a comment, respond with your own video. This is an opportunity to get a conversation started and spark community engagement and input outside of the typical evening community meeting. We hope you’ll join in the conversation.
